Heating System Complete Failure Emergency

Your Heating System has stopped working completely. Follow these emergency steps to diagnose the issue and get help fast.

6 Emergency Steps

Follow these emergency steps in order. If at any point you feel unsafe, evacuate and call for help immediately.

Safety First

If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide, or see sparks, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not attempt to operate your system if you suspect a safety issue.

Check that the Heating System power switch is in the ON position and has not been accidentally turned off

Verify the Heating System circuit breaker has not tripped and reset if necessary

Check that your Heating System thermostat is set to heat or cool mode and the temperature setting is appropriate

Inspect the Heating System for any obvious signs of damage, leaking, or unusual odors

If the Heating System has a reset button, press it once and wait for the system to restart

If none of the above works, turn off the Heating System and call for emergency service immediately
