Heating System Spark Ignition Failure Emergency

5 Emergency Steps

Follow these emergency steps in order. If at any point you feel unsafe, evacuate and call for help immediately.

Safety First

If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide, or see sparks, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not attempt to operate your system if you suspect a safety issue.

Turn off the Heating System and wait 5 minutes for any unburned gas to disperse

Listen for the spark ignitor clicking when the Heating System calls for heat

Inspect the Heating System spark electrode for cracks or carbon buildup

Verify the Heating System spark electrode gap is within manufacturer specifications

Call for Heating System service if the spark ignition continues to fail
